Nebs
The preliminary Nebula Award ballot has been announced.
As usual, I haven't read any of the novels; unusually for me, though, I have read all of the novellas. Only five novellas made it onto the preliminary ballot, so all five will be on the final ballot. They're all good; I'm a little sad that Coraline is on the novella ballot, though, because I think it'll make it hard for the others to get the attention they deserve. My favorite of the set is Ian MacLeod's "Breathmoss," followed by Eleanor Arnason's "The Potter of Bones."
I've read three-quarters of the short stories on the list, and liked most of those. (There are ten on that list, so only half of them will end up on the final ballot.) Among several strong showings on the short-story list, Eleanor's "Knapsack Poems" is my favorite.
Big congratulations to SH contributors Alex Irvine, Ray Vukcevich, Greg van Eekhout, Dora Goss, and Ellen Klages for making the list. Yay!
