Weekend
Two months ago, the homeowners' association here decided that we needed to have a termite inspector come and look at the place. I was pleased, because when I moved in there was a big pile of dead termites on my windowsill, which made me a little nervous. At the HOA meeting, I made a point of explicitly noting that I particularly wanted an inspection because of all the dead termites I'd found, termites which the pre-sale inspector hadn't seen any sign of.
So eventually they scheduled an inspector. He was supposed to come this morning. I decided not to do our traditional pre-APE dim sum breakfast with Carla Speed McNeil and Rachel Hartman and others this morning, for various reasons but partly because I had to be here for the termite inspection. (Also, I confess, because Rachel won't be there and I haven't heard from Speed whether she'll be there or not, but it makes a better story (and I can sound more put-upon) if I leave that part out.) I got up earlier than I wanted to and made sure various areas were clear so he could get to them.
Then there came a knock on my door. It was one of my neighbors, telling me that the inspector had looked at one of the areas the HOA had been concerned about and determined that it was just dry rot, and had decided not to complete the rest of the inspection.
I explained that I had actual dead termites, but the inspector was gone. So now we have to schedule another inspection. Feh.
Not sure I'm going to APE this year. Until this morning, I was planning to go, but I've got a lot to do this weekend. I'll be up in SF anyway tomorrow, to see Noises Off, so if I'm feeling especially energetic I may yet head up early and stop by APE for a couple hours first. But I may not.
Oh, well. It hasn't all been annoyance this morning; I did read an amusing piece at 365gay.com titled "Did Bush Make Pass At Canadian Male Political Aide?" (Link courtesy of the Macedonian Party LJ community, who are promoting Alexander the Great for President in '04.
