Slow reveal

A followup to my previous entry, something I meant to say a couple days ago: I love it when a story successfully pulls off the gradual revelation that the world of the story is not at all the world it initially appeared to be. But it's a dangerous approach to take, because if you don't pace the revelations perfectly, readers are likely to end up annoyed—too slow and their assumptions will have hardened into stone before the new information comes along, too fast and they won't have time to adjust. Like getting the bends from changing pressure too fast.

Haven't had time to post, these last couple days; been working on a deadline. Also not feeling like I have much to say at the moment, unusual as that may be for me. Today, have a lot of submissions to read and some writing to do; tomorrow, it's off to SF to attend Tim's reading.
