Antisocial
I meant to note in last night's entry that I've been kinda grumpy and out of sorts lately (anyone know where I could find some good fresh sorts?), and have been doing a lot of socializing with not a lot of downtime, and am heading into WorldCon weekend tense and short on sleep. (And I'm expecting to spend much of the week after WorldCon socializing with Bostonians, and probably short on sleep then too.) Luckily, I was so late signing up for programming that they didn't put me on any panels, so my only scheduled event is the Strange Horizons tea party on Sunday from 4:30 to 6. We'll be celebrating our fourth anniversary; come on by! I think Small Beer Press is co-hosting.
Anyway, this is really just by way of warning y'all that I may spend a lot of the weekend holed up in my hotel room. If so, please don't take it personally; just a coping mechanism. (The week before WorldCon has historically sometimes not been such a great week for me. Four years ago, the week before SH launched, was the worst one: it was one of the busiest weeks of the year at work, I was frantically preparing for the magazine launch and the con, my two co-editors suddenly left, and (unrelated to any of those events, of course) Alex killed himself. (Sunday was the anniversary of his death.) I'll be quite happy to never have another week like that again. I keep reminding myself that this week's stresses are minuscule by comparison.)
I'll have my cell phone with me at WorldCon; I'm guessing since it'll be downtown Boston that I'll have reasonably good signal for once, but who knows. If you need to reach me during the weekend, that'll probably be the best way to do it. I'll check email when I can, but don't know how often that'll be.
Oh, if anyone hasn't seen it, the Noreascon program is now available online. I haven't had time to look at it yet.
(Which obliquely reminds me: Anyone heard from Scott Reilly lately? His usual frequent updates of Write Hemisphere stopped a couple weeks ago, and j-walker is showing no journal entries from him since June.... Scott, if you see this, I hope everything's okay.)
Okay, I gotta run off to work. Tonight, dinner with David M; tomorrow, working at home, laundry, packing, editorial meeting, evening with Kam; Thursday, off to Boston for nearly two weeks. Not sure when I'll next get a chance to post.
