The nosebleed section

Tonight was the second time in a week that I suddenly sneezed hard and my nose started bleeding. (This has never happened to me before last week.) Took a lot longer to stop it tonight than last time. Annoying. I hope this doesn't continue all winter.

Btw, the MedlinePlus Medical Encyclopedia article on nosebleed notes that, contrary to popular advice, when applying pressure to stop a nosebleed you should "[l]ean forward to avoid swallowing the blood."

There are various other things I was going to mention (movies, TV, the weekend in general, etc), but it's late and I need to go to sleep. More tomorrow, most likely.

I went through a period of frequent nosebleeds. My doctor told me to rub petroleum jelly-based antibiotic ointment in my nose (petroleum jelly for moisturizing, antibiotic so nasties don’t grow in the petroleum jelly). It worked well.

There’s something weird about sticking neosporin up your nose, but it does sound like it would work.

I’ve heard the don’t-lean-back advice about nosebleeds too, although I thought it had something to do with blood dripping into your lungs rather than swallowing it.
