Double submission milestone

As of sometime in the past week (or maybe sometime in the next week; these things are a little vague), the Strange Horizons fiction department has (will have) received over 9000 submissions since we started taking subs four-plus years ago, by about 4000 different authors.

Which means we'll probably hit about 10,000 submissions somewhere around my birthday, end of next March. Cool.

A previous milestone entry from almost exactly a year ago suggests that we've had about a thousand new authors and 2500 total submissions in the past year.

I know this isn't a big deal compared to the big print magazines, but it still boggles me a little. Four thousand different people have sent us stories; that's the population of a town. Or at least a village.
