“Calamity Jane” Austin

I really wasn't going to post again tonight, but I just can't help it: I just followed a pointer from Rich Horton's home page to Jo Walton's page for "Calamity Jane" Austin, the well-known "early 19th Century Texan author, frontierswoman, and proto-feminist." It features brief appreciations by Lois McMaster Bujold, Lois Tilton, and others, discussing such famed works of Austin's as Winchester Park, The Persuader, Fence and Fencibility, and Edda (that last being "about a community of Scandinavian immigrants in Minnesota").

Everyone who was involved in that discussion of feminist alternate history really ought to stop by and take a look, even though there isn't much on the Austin page. I suspect if y'all send Jo new material about Austin, she'd be happy to publish it. Though I'm not certain whether the email address on that page is still the right one to use for her.

And now I'm going to go edit. Honest.
