The stories of Star Wars

What do various people think is going on in Star Wars? Here are some samples. The first couple links are new to me; the rest are mostly things I've posted before but that seem thematically relevant, and the last one is something I'm amazed that I've never linked to before.

  • Woman who's never seen an entire SW film gives a plot summary of the original trilogy. (Remarkably accurate!)
  • A New Hope according to a three-year-old.
  • Comments from a seven-year-old on seeing A New Hope for essentially the first time, after seeing the prequel trilogy.
  • A New Sith, or, Revenge of the Hope, an excellent Secret History-style exegesis of what's really going on in the original Star Wars, in light of what we learned in Revenge of the Sith. (Note: it contains spoilers for all six movies.) (Somehow the tone and style of this reminds me obliquely of Niven's Down in Flames, the outline for the epic novel that would have torn Known Space to shreds. There ought to be a term, besides "retcon" and "secret history," for this kind of hypothetical "everything you know about this fictional world is wrong; here are new underpinnings consistent with the known fictional facts" scenario description/outline/summary.)
  • Misconceptions about Star Wars.
  • Star Wars vs. LotR vs. Matrix--not entirely on-topic, but vaguely relevant if you follow the link to the original article.
  • Darths & Droids--the prequel trilogy re-envisioned as a roleplaying game, in fotonovel webcomic style, a la DM of the Rings. I have a bunch more to say about this in a separate posting, to follow at some point. Note that they've just finished the first SW movie, so I recommend reading the strips in order rather than jumping to the latest one; the most recent strip shows the (fictional) GM's notes, which I suspect are much funnier after seeing the hash that the players make of things than if you read the notes beforehand.
