People helping people
Two items that give me some hope for humanity:
- Portland dry cleaner Plaza Cleaners offers free dry cleaning for unemployed people who need a clean outfit for a job interview. See also a scanned-in article from The Oregonian (April 2009) about the offer.
- Couple visiting from Seattle rescue woman from DC Metro tracks. Not only amazingly brave, but amazingly cool-headed in a crisis: one of them ran to alert the station manager, the other realized she couldn't lift the woman alone and recruited other bystanders to help.
