SH on World Fantasy Award ballot
Two months ago, the nominees for this year's World Fantasy Award were announced. (For works published in 2009.)
Ever since then, I've been meaning to post, to mention that Strange Horizons is represented twice on this year's ballot. I imagine that everyone who cares about this has known for two months now, but since the award ceremony (and thus the announcements of winners) will happen in two days, I figured I really ought to finally post.
The two SH-related nominations:
- Our editor-in-chief Susan Marie Groppi was nominated in the Special Award—Non-Professional category.
- Helen Keeble's novelette “A Journal of Certain Events of Scientific Interest from the First Survey Voyage of the Southern Waters by HMS Ocelot, As Observed by Professor Thaddeus Boswell, DPhil, MSc” was nominated in the short story category. (The WFA doesn't have a novelette category, just short story and novella.)
I am delighted by both of these nominations. Susan was previously nominated three years ago, but other than that I don't think we've ever appeared on the WFA ballot; I think Helen's story is the first thing we've published that's been on the ballot.
