If you were wondering why the most popular Republican in the country didn’t appear at their national convention, perhaps this has something to do with it. If y’all don’t want to click the link, Gentle Readers, it seems that Colin Powell told Jack Straw in the summer of 2002 that Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld and Paul Wolfowitz were fucking crazies.
I think I’m going to want to read The Accidental American: Tony Blair and the Presidency, by James Naughtie, which is the book mentioned above, wherein the ‘fucking crazies’ conversation is reported. As long-time Gentle Readers will remember, in February 2003, I supported Tony Blair in his support of the ultimatum presented by Our Only President. I only broke with him when I concluded that Our Only President and his cronies simply couldn’t be trusted to do it right. Whether that’s because they are fucking crazies or not, I want to know how Tony Blair came to be the international chairman of the Trust the President society. And how Colin Powell came to be the Amazing Disappearing Republican.
