Genus, species, and serial number
I meant to mention this morning that apparently there's a new academic controversy in the world of biological taxonomy. There's the folks as want to adopt a new system, PhyloCode, to replace the time-honored systems based on the Linnaean system; and then there's the folks as claim that "the PhyloCode is vapor." And then there are the pages that look like jokes but apparently aren't; the rest of the Dinosaur FAQ at that site has some interesting stuff in it, but I think that PhyloCode page just hasn't been completed yet.
'Course, as far as I can tell from searching the PhyloCode spec for the word "example," PhyloCode is (or will be, when it's completed) largely indistinguishable from other systems to the layperson's ear. But I may be wrong; I didn't look at it in much detail.
