Sub storm
My goodness. We've been averaging, as I noted the other day, about six and a half submissions a day, which is still pretty manageable. But today we've had seventeen so far, and the day's not over yet.
I wonder if it has anything to do with Penny Arcade linking to us again. This time they link using the text "speculative fiction" (which I'm pleased by; particularly amusing given my comments the other day about Googlebombing) and they don't imply that we're some sort of general geek site, and because of people following that link it's going to be the highest traffic day ever at SH's main page. I find it remarkable that a computer-gaming site's overflow traffic, from a link in the middle of a sentence about something else, adds up to more traffic than we got from the Hugo-nomination pages at scifi.com, Locus Online, and the ConJose site put together. Anyway, always happy to have people link to us, and always hope that some of any given traffic spike will stick around for a while.
I doubt the increased submission volume is really due to that link; last time PA linked to us, submission volume was much lower than usual. But still, an odd coincidence.
Oh, and if you were considering sending us a story today? Might be best to hold off.
