Few and far between

Haven't managed many entries lately, I see. For the past week or two, I've been starting to write entries and emails, and running into obstacles. I start to research a point I want to make, and find out that I'm wrong, or that the situation's more complicated than I thought. Or I just start to have doubts about what I'm saying, or get all tangled up in trying to say it coherently. Or something interrupts me.

So, briefly:

Saturday spent the afternoon at the Exploratorium with Josh and Geoff & Michelle & kids. I continue to like kids a lot as long as I can give them back when done with them. It was a lot of fun to wander around the Exp'ium, following Connor wherever his interest was caught. (I know two young children named Connor. I'm wondering whether that's going to turn out to be a very common name in that generation.) Connor had a lot of fun pointing up and saying "down!" and then laughing when we contradicted him. Eventually he joined consensus reality by pointing down and saying "down!", at which point I told him he ought not to succumb to peer pressure, and Geoff glared at me for encouraging his child to be difficult. : )

I begged off a social engagement in the evening in favor of going home to edit. Only when I got home, there was a message on my answering machine from Arthur & Pam asking if I wanted to go see Men in Black II. So I jumped back in the car and re-traced the last 15 minutes of my drive home. The movie was fun; not as bad as I'd feared (based on reviews from friends), though not as good as I'd hoped (based on the first one). Afterward, we hung out and looked at wedding pictures. And a charming video segment of Arthur's exes being interviewed at the wedding.

Sunday I wandered down to Santa Cruz to spend the afternoon with Kam on the beach. She got a cool new digital camera to take with her on her impending travels; made me want to go out and buy one too, but I refrained. We eventually wandered up to the house in the mountains near Bonny Doon where she was house-sitting. Giant outdoor hot tub under the stars, surrounded by redwoods. Hard to beat.

Of course, the result of all this was that I got very little of what I needed to get done this weekend done. But I did have a good time, and even managed to finish the reading I was supposed to have done by Saturday this morning before work.

I'm sure there's more I could say, but I think it's really time for me to go home and have some dinner and edit.
