Heffalump is better than none

An early research paper on heffalumps provides a few tantalizing tidbits of information about their care, feeding, and personal habits:

First, the primary mode of heffalump locomotion appears to be "Just lumping along."

It seems that "[y]ou don't often see them," which may suggest either that they're rare or that they're sometimes invisible.

The paper indicated that there was some debate over whether string is necessary to lead a heffalump home with. The debate concluded that some heffalumps come if you whistle, and some don't; "[y]ou never can tell with Heffalumps."

The paper also provided some Questions for further study (presented here with a few Annotations by Me):

What was a Heffalump like?

Was it Fierce?

Did it come when you whistled? And how did it come? [I have a feeling this is related to the questions of the creature's gender and sexual orientation.]

Was it Fond of Pigs at all? [See previous note.]

If it was Fond of Pigs, did it make any difference what sort of Pig? [Presumably an Earth-pig, given the part-aardvark ancestry.]

Supposing it was Fierce with Pigs, would it make any diffference if the Pig had a grandfather called TRESPASSERS WILLIAM?

I think that's quite enough of that. At least for now.

All this reminds me that once, years ago, the question came up of which Milne character various people were most like. Somehow Beth and Arthur concluded that I was most like Rabbit; I was never very clear on their reasoning. The 100 Acre Personality Quiz suggests that I'm more like Kanga, with perhaps some Owl tendencies. Perhaps.
