More songs about heffalumps
Frau Doktor Professor Faber provides more information on the common heffalump:
The heffalump, or Pachycteropus heffalumpus, related to both the aardvark and the elephant, is in fact not related to Cilia pentapodia; their resemblance, though close enough to confuse even experienced zoologists, is the result of convergent evolution. Cilia pentapodia can be recognized up close by its radial symmetry—while Pachycteropus heffalumpus, like all mammals, is only bilaterally symmetric.
Note that while the creature in question does resemble the common aardvark, it has a much shorter tail, which tends to confirm it as P. heffalumpus.
How could anyone contradict such a learned source? I think that pretty solidly confirms that the thus-far-nameless creature in question is in fact a heffalump. (Rumors that its former owners had labeled it an elephant may be exaggerated, or may simply be due to the difficulty that many people clearly have in distinguishing between these various species.)
In related news, another possible name has been added to the list: Eeyore. However, any resulting speculation that the creature is some form of donkey should be quashed. The management feels that the time has come to put aside partisan differences over species designations and unite behind the Pachycteropus heffalumpus banner.
