YAQ

Time for Yet Another Quiz: Which Fantasy/SciFi Character Are You? Unlike most such quizzes, this one has nearly 50 possible outcomes, from 9 different movies and TV shows.

Me, I'm apparently either Samwise Gamgee or John Sheridan. I suppose that means that whether I'm a follower or a leader, I'm a boy scout. I guess I prefer Sam, if only because he doesn't have that annoyingly self-satisfied smirk. I hope this doesn't mean I have to kill someone for trying something with Frodo.

(Because I'm tired, I originally typed "boy scout" as "goy scout.")

Ack! I came out Wesley Crusher!

I’m going to go kill myself now…

Aragorn. “Putting your appointed path ahead of any inner conflicts, you make your own rules for the benefit of all.” Cool.

Then I took it again and came out Luke Skywalker. “Boldly striving to overcome the darkness both in this world and within yourself, you are righteously devoted to forging your own destiny.

It’s your choice, but I warn you not to underestimate my powers.

Who knew Aragorn and Luke Skywalker were destined for the seventh circle of Hell?

Gandalf. “And so am I, very dangerous: more dangerous than anything you will ever meet, unless you are brought alive before the seat of the Dark Lord.”

    Heh.

John Sheridan. Seems about right. And I like the idea of ending up as President of well, almost everything. I like it a lot.

Even with shifting around several of my “maybe” answers: Legolas Greenleaf. (This forest is old. Very old. Full of memory… and anger.)

I have no idea what this means.

    Ohhhh, geez.

    They put me as *Galadriel*?

Miscast. I call a miscast. *shakes head and wanders off, laughing*

Oh, did you look at the stats page for the quiz? Among the characters with the top 50% of the results, the only character who isn’t an authority figure (aristocratic, military, or spiritual) is Wesley Crusher. Okay, maybe Luke Skywalker is questionable, but by ESB he, too, has become “Commander Skywalker.” (And he’s the last one on the top 50% list anyways.)

Galadriel and Princess Leia are the only two women in the top 50% of results, but Galadriel is the top character by a huge margin over Aragorn. Overall, ~165,000 respondents identify with male characters (~4000 per each of 42 male characters), ~33,000 with female (~8000 per each of 4 female characters), and ~6500 with unknowns (6110 for Kosh and 396 for the Shadows).

…And almost 205,000 hits on the quiz!?

Geeking out for no good reason. Carry on.

Well, the first two times I took this quiz, I came up with two Bab 5 characters, and, since I don’t watch Bab 5, they meant nothing to me. I fiddled with the questions I was waffling on and got . . .

    Gimli.

It’s a good thing that I’m ok with not being, you know, cool and stuff.

    Yoda. Or Gandalf.

Do we detect a mentor theme here?

I wonder how many of the results being reported are from people like me, who spend five minutes tweaking answers four-dozen-odd times trying to get Kosh (and failing; I only got about twenty different results: none of the female ones, no Legolas, no Gimli, no Kosh, no Shadows, no Gandalf, no Wesley…). The combinations I thought would get Kosh tended to get Snape, Potter, or Voldemort.

    Apparently I’m Princess Leia:

A strong-willed herald of causes against injustice, you passionately strive to right the wrongs around you.

Well, yeah, I guess. I’ve become a bit Zen about the order of the universe as I’ve gotten older, and my crusader instincts have mellowed a bit.

Marcus Cole’s the hottie from Bab 5 who got involved with Ivanova. (Trivia point: Jason Carter — the actor who played Marcus — is married to a friend of a woman I used to work with.)

Okay, Jenn, I’ll be Jean Luc Picard’s evil twin.

I haven’t seen much Star Trek, but surely there’s an episode where Jean Luc has an evil twin…?
