Birth and death
This morning when I checked email, I found two pieces of news:
An elementary-school and junior-high-school friend who I haven't seen in over twenty years, but who got back in touch with me by email a couple years ago, sent me a birth announcement: a healthy baby girl, born this past Monday morning.
And then, just a couple messages later, a college friend (Geoff H., for those who know him) let me know that his mother died this morning. She'd been diagnosed with ALS about a year ago, and everyone knew she didn't have much time left; she'd already lasted longer than the doctors expected. I feel lucky to have known her, though I didn't know her well; she was really wonderful. And I'm glad to have had the chance to say goodbye to her two weeks ago, painful and difficult as it was.
. . . I was going to try to say more here, but I find I'm out of words.
