Items: Good news

In an attempt to cheer up myself (have you noticed how HR people and airplane flight attendants always say "myself" instead of "me"?) and everyone else after that downer of an entry, here are some assorted bits of good news:

  • The cover for All-Star Zeppelin Adventure Stories is done, and it's as gorgeous as the inside of the advance review copy David showed me a while back. I'm really looking forward to seeing the final book, both 'cause it'll be really pretty and 'cause I get to share a table of contents with a bunch of writers whose work I like.
  • I already bought a copy of So Long Been Dreaming: Postcolonial Science Fiction & Fantasy, edited by Nalo Hopkinson and Uppinder Mehan; but now you can buy one too. (It's only just become widely available in the US.)
  • Rumor has it Apple is going to announce new iBooks and possibly other new computers on Tuesday morning.
  • Rumor also has it that the Treo 650 will debut next week.
  • I'm still enjoying West Wing. In particular, episode 1.10, "In Excelsis Deo," was superb—this was their first Christmas episode, the one in which Toby deals with the death of a homeless Korean War veteran. The whole episode was an excellent mix of charm and pathos (the scene with the President talking to the 7-year-olds was lovely); in case it's not obvious by now, I'm a sucker for that kind of mix.
  • Kam returns to the US on Tuesday evening!

Damn Apple! I was counting on them giving the 14″ iBook a higher-resolution screen.

(I want to replace my badly abused TiBook, and I hate the keyboards on the current crop of Powerbooks.)
