Posting comments

Several people have mentioned that they've received errors when posting comments, and some people have re-posted the comment later. I'm not sure what's up with the errors—it would be great if anyone who experiences them could drop me a note in email with the URL of the error page and the text of the error, and any other info that might be useful about what you were doing when it happened. But I think the error is happening after the comment is successfully posted.

So if you get an error, try reloading the relevant entry page or comment page in a new browser window, and see if the comment posted successfully before re-posting it.

I'm deleting most of the duplicates, so it's not a big deal. Just letting you know that in all the cases I've heard about where there's been an error, the comment did post successfully before the error happened.

    I’m thinking of switching back to LJ to read your journal via the syndicated feed, and noticed that your RSS feed doesn’t include a comments link. Any chance it could?

    I did not get an error when I posted the follow-up. I didn’t do anything obviously different; didn’t hit Preview either time… The only thing I can think of is that your site set a cookie (which I allowed it to do) after the first post, so it presumably already existed when I made the second post.

    When I commented the second time on your Prop. 73 post, I got the dreaded error message (though the comment went through). The first time, I had no problem.

    Here’s what I remember of what I did:

    The first time I commented, I logged in, typed my comment, previewed it, and posted.

    The second time I just posted without a preview. Could that be the key point? I’ve had the error occur when I’ve just logged in, so I don’t think it’s that…

    The error URL isn’t helpful; it’s <http://www.kith.org/cgi-bin/mt/mt-comments.cgi&gt;. The text is as Irilyth quotes it.
