Home safe

Flew home this evening. Kam picked me up at SFO (thanks again, Kam!). For once, the Curse was not in operation.

(Every previous time that Kam has picked me up at SFO from a flight that I've checked bags on, either my flight or the bags, or both, have been ridiculously delayed, usually resulting in Kam waiting at the airport for many hours in the middle of the night. This time, she said she was going to show up in disguise.)

My customer service demon was remarkably absent this trip, but in the past few days I've felt like I was being pecked to death by customer-service ducks. Nothing big, nothing serious, nothing really unpleasant or awful, just a whole lot of tiny little annoyances. Today's list included the El being out of service and a plague of broken or missing escalators at O'Hare. But my flight arrived safely at SFO 45 minutes early (!), and my bags also arrived safely and in a reasonable amount of time, so I can't really complain.

I'll have more to say about the past few days later. But for now, just a quick note about this evening, then to sleep.

We went to the Obon Festival at the Mountain View Buddhist Temple in an attempt to find dinner, but we were too late--the big crowd had eaten almost all the food by the time we got there. So we went to Sono Sushi for dinner, then came home and watched the first three episodes of Dr. Who season three back-to-back.

I thought the serious bits of the intercalary episode, "Runaway Bride," were great, but the main plot was just too goofy. (Yes, Dr. Who is supposed to be silly, but this one went too far for me.) But then came "Smith and Jones," which was pretty much perfect all the way through. And I enjoyed "The Shakespeare Code" too, though not as much. (But I did indeed love the exchange between the Doctor and Shakespeare that everyone said I would love.)

Sadly, due to TiVo problems, "Gridlock" didn't record. But I imagine I can find someone who can provide me with a copy.

In other news, while I was gone Kam brought in a cleaner who did an excellent and thorough job cleaning my whole house, and Twig replaced my dishwasher. Yay! Thanks to both of you.

Okay, off to sleep for me.
