Productive day
Had a nicely productive day today. For example:
- Checked off over 20 items on my task list—usually these days I get through about 10 in a given day. (Most of today’s items were either small things or incremental-progress-on-ongoing-projects things, but all of them were good things to get done.)
- Prepared for cleaners, including getting enough stuff off the floor of half of my room that they could vacuum there. (Usually when the cleaners come, I just tell them not to clean my room.)
- Dealt with an annoying customer service situation without getting too upset; got the situation resolved, and decided not to attempt to report the bug in the company’s order form that led to the problem. (Because in my experience, most customer-service people don’t understand the concept of reporting a bug, so my attempts to do that usually just make me more stressed.)
- Successfully synced all of my mobile devices with my new computer. (The two iPads were easy, but the iPhone (which I keep a lot more stuff on, because it has more storage capacity) kept getting to the final waiting-for-items-to-copy step and then sitting at that step indefinitely—a couple of times, I waited for about 12 hours for that step to finish before I gave up and canceled the sync. I ended up removing all the music and photos and syncing successfully; then gradually added stuff back in, syncing after each addition of a category of stuff; and I’m now back to doing a full sync (currently in progress: “Copying photo 183 of 34,785”). Hoping that will work.)
- Made my first attempt at making coconut rice in my rice cooker, more or less following an average of the three or four recipes I looked at online. (I say “recipes,” but they were very simple.) It came out not-bad, and I have ideas about how to improve it next time.
- Had stalled about a week ago on the dealing-with-stacks-of-paper project; got moving again on that by dipping into the publications-to-read-and-decide-what-to-do-with stack. Made useful progress on that.
Of course I didn’t get through everything on my task list for today, but I never expect to get through the whole list on a given day. It’s more an aspirational list than a plausible one.
Anyway, all very pleasing.
