Life update: social and productive

Some what-I’ve-been-up-to updates:

Last week was extremely social for me. As usual, all of the socializing was lovely, but the total added up to being kind of exhausting.

Mary Anne was in town for a couple of days; I spent some time with Kam; I went on a walk at Shoreline with a friend; I had half a dozen video or audio calls with friends, including some I haven’t seen in years; and I had the usual two therapy sessions (one solo, one couples counseling), both of which were more intense than usual.

(On a side note: On Friday, I also started to write a résumé, for the first time in 19 years. That wasn’t social, but it did take emotional energy.)

So by Saturday afternoon, I was completely exhausted. I ended up napping for half of Saturday.

Sunday, I was recovered enough that I embarked on a day of productivity. Ended up checking off 20 items from my to-do list; most of those were recurring items of one sort or another, but a few were one-time things. (These days, I think I’m usually averaging checking off maybe 10 or 11 items a day.)

I also spent a fair bit of time on Sunday installing and trying out trial versions of Parallels Desktop on my new M2 MacBook Air, and Windows 11 inside Parallels, and FrameMaker inside Windows. (Only I had to switch to a different computer for that last step.) Among other things, I’m hoping to convert a bunch of old FrameMaker documents into formats that I can read on my Mac.

I also played a bit of the Windows-only Steam game Dorfromantik, because a friend recently praised the boardgame version (in this case the computer game came first), and Kam recently acquired the boardgame version and loaned it to me so I could learn it. The boardgame feels to me (so far) very much like a cooperative version of Carcassonne (even though when I try to describe it in detail, there are a lot of differences from Carcassonne). The computer game is pretty similar to the boardgame, except that it’s designed for solo play and goes on a lot longer. I had some issues understanding parts of the UI (may be a color-blindness issue). I think the computer game is interesting, but I think I’ll like the boardgame more.

What else? Have been continuing to read Year’s Bests (from circa 2010) and not much else. Making slow progress on the old-paper-sorting project. Very slowly/hesitantly dipping my toes into the beginning of a job search, more or less. Trying out various new-to-me TV shows. Continuing with piano and guitar and Duolingo. The usual.
