Cyberwar

Okay, so maybe the things I was talking about the other day are really obvious and I just hadn't been paying attention. For example, it turns out the reason I haven't been able to see the Al-Jazeera site lately is that it's been suffering a distributed denial-of-service attack since Tuesday. Apparently there've been hacker attacks on both sides, but the article in The Age quotes a US government report:

The report alluded to pro and anti-US hackers, saying that this was not an organised effort "but rather independent hackers who want to get their message across."

(I'm not sure how much to trust The Age; that article about nonlethal weapons the other day apparently was blithely referring to a weapon (the non-nuke EMP-generator) that the US government claims doesn't exist, but that may've been used to knock out Iraqi international broadcasting. Too many conflicting claims for me to figure out. But at any rate, this government report has been widely quoted in all sorts of sources; The Age was just a convenient one to point to.)
