It's only recently that I've learned you can get onto panels at sf cons by checking the little box in the registration form that says "I'm interested in being on panels." Sometimes that results in the ConCom deciding whether to ask you to be on panels; sometimes it results in them sending you the programming survey and letting you indicate what panels you want to be on. The main important point that I didn't understand 'til recently is that you don't necessarily need to be Known to be on panels, and you don't have to wait for a ConCom to contact you and ask you to be on them.

    And may I modestly plug the two panels I suggested to TorCon…Story Words, a live action version of my blog, and How Much is that Writer in the Window, a Harlan Ellison homage in which writers execute stories in realtime while accepting audience input and heckling.

    Come on, y’all, volunteer to be on those panels. It’s like Writer Improv. Or at least come by and heckle me.

    How ’bout I come by the Window and pirate your stuff to Russian newsgroups in real time?

    Jed, don’t let this get out. Otherwise the loud people who stand in panel audiences and shout will find out that they can actually get the microphones into their grubby little fingers.
