Moved and connected!

Last night my cable modem stopped working; presumably because it was after midnight east-coast time so they'd done something to transfer my account to the new address. It was just as well, as I didn't have time to be wasting online.

This morning, much too early for my tastes, four guys with a huge moving van and another truck came and took almost everything out of my apartment. About an hour to load the truck; fifteen minutes to close it up and drive to the new place and set up to unload; another hour to unload. Still had to pay for the three-hour minimum, though.

I still have a bunch of stuff at the old place—I mostly needed the movers to move the furniture and the many many boxes of books, so I didn't pack up the kitchen or the bathroom or my bedroom closet yet. Will do that today and tomorrow, and bring that stuff over on my own.

Cable guy just came by and set up cable modem at my new place. I was amused that he went through the setup sequence for me, so when it came time to read the user agreement and accept or not accept it, he just clicked accept. "That's a requirement," he said. Not that I wouldn't have accepted it on my own, but I still thought it was funny.

The point of all this is that I'm sitting at my computer desk in my new bedroom, looking out the window at the trees, with a broadband Internet connection. Oh, and I took today as a vacation day at work. (The move was completely done before the time that I usually go to work, but there's no way I would get any productive work done today.) So although I haven't had nearly enough sleep lately, and I still have plenty of moving left to do before I'm done, life is pretty good.

Oops. Must have hit the wrong key by mistake. Didn’t realize it would be that easy to post accidentally. Ignore the previous entry.

What I meant to say was: Congratulations on your new place! May it give you many years of peace and happiness.
