Updates
It's been pointed out that I haven't posted anything in the past couple days. No particular reason; just been busy. Started a long entry about the Hugos and how to nominate and who's eligible and where to find info, but realized it needed more attention than I could give it, and probably more brevity.
Been working my way through the HUGE! pile of subs that came in last week. Am about halfway done with my third of them. This week, volume has dropped to more normal levels, thank goodness, but January's still almost certainly going to be our highest-volume month ever. Not surprising, of course; last January was also our highest-volume month ever. Some of the subs are stories that people would've sent during December but didn't 'cause we were closed; also, some people who weren't previously aware of us see the reopening announcement and send us stories. (And the rate increase is probably drawing some attention too.) Ideomancer folks, I hope you'll get increased submission volume but not too much increased submission volume when you reopen in February.
Anyway. I've also been editing away, trying to regain some of the lead time I lost in late December; that's been going well.
Stuff at work is going to be extremely busy for the next couple of weeks; you may not hear from me much during that time.
Also, Kam is heading off to Mexico for a couple of months starting next week (she'll be volunteering at a school in the Yucatan, helping set up computer systems and such, I think), so I've been hanging out with her when possible lately; another reason I may not post much in the next few days. I'll be heading down to Santa Cruz on Saturday, and I have Monday off work for MLK Day so I'll probably be hanging out with her then too, unless she's too busy packing. (I realize that I ought to spend the time off work contemplating race relations in the US. Maybe I'll spend the morning doing that, and goof off in the afternoon.)
The other night we watched the last few episodes of season 1 of Will & Grace; there was one episode I was pretty uncomfortable with (all the upper-class snobbishness from various characters, especially Karen, is a lot funnier to me when it's not being used to insult any specific working-class character), and in general it relies more on humor-of-embarrassment than I usually like, but mostly it's continued to be very funny and charming and honest and to really nicely address stuff about the complexity of non-romantic relationships that I don't see talked about in most other fiction. It may well get repetitive and old after a while, but I'm still enjoying it for now.
Okay, enough; time for me to go read more subs, and then to bed.
