Stuff and nonsense
Another assortment:
- Kam forwards from Peggy a link to Samorost, yet another Flash game. This one is sort of vaguely Myst-like, only much smaller and sillier. It's the sort of thing where you click everything in sight and it reacts in various ways. In some places, you may just have to move the mouse pointer around and see where it changes to a "you can click this" pointer; I couldn't get past the first screen (the guy with the hookah) without a hint, partly because one of the things to click on was something I didn't realize was clickable (until I pointed the pointer at it). (For that matter, even getting the game started requires clicking on a little item that may not be obviously clickable, in the intro screen.)
- If you want to vote on the Constitution of the Galactic Government, be sure to stop by the Lunar Embassy World Headquarters.
- I'm trying to avoid discussing The Passion of the Christ, but I can't resist pointing to this faux blooper reel transcript.
- Nifty snow crystal photos.
- Interesting article from the Phoenix New Times about Aryanfest 2004. (Starts with a prominent photo of a swastika, btw, in case you care about other people seeing such things on your screen.) The article takes an interesting tack: its tone suggests that the event, and by implication the whole white-power movement, is too silly to be taken seriously. I think laughing at the bad guys is a good approach in general, but I wonder if it might lead to not paying enough attention to the harm they can do. On the one hand, only 350 people showed up to this event; on the other hand, "law enforcement sources still say it was the biggest white power event ever in Arizona." A difficult balance; I certainly don't think fearmongering is the way to go either. But I'd be happier with a calm and careful assessment than with ridicule.
- Lucius reviews Return of the King. Surprisingly (because his reviews usually shred their subjects mercilessly), he seems to have mostly liked it.
- Trailer for upcoming science fiction(?)/fantasy(?) film from Enki Bilal: Immortel. (Click either "Standard" or "Full Screen" under "Découvrez la bande-annonce" at the middle-bottom of the page; the "teaser" trailer at the bottom right is less interesting.)
