Fund drive

This month has been the Strange Horizons fund drive. I've been meaning to post about it, but what with one thing and another, here it is the last day of the fund drive and I'm only now getting around to posting.

As usual, I'm hesitant to ask for money, especially since I suspect that most of you who have any interest at all in the magazine have already seen a dozen notices of the fund drive in other places this month.

But I imagine there might be a few of you who've been putting off donating, or who haven't donated because you think you'd have to donate a lot of money, so I'll toss in a small pitch here:

We've been publishing this magazine, with new content every week (except the week off at the end of each year), for three and a half years now. It's still run entirely by volunteers, and it still pays pro rates for fiction (higher rates now than six months ago). I continue to be impressed by the hard work and dedication of the staff, and by the fact that for over 175 weeks we've never missed an issue. I continue to be pleased by the reviews and recognition we get. And I continue to dream of the day when the entire magazine is funded by a whole lot of $10 donations from individuals.

If you give us $25, you'll become a Basic Member, which gets you a nifty membership card and a discount on our print anthologies. For higher amounts, you get more benefits. But we're also perfectly happy to receive smaller amounts. If you want to send us $10, or $5, we'll gratefully accept.

$10 pays for 200 words of fiction, about half a printed page. $20 pays for 400 words of fiction, or for a review. $50 pays for an article or an entire short-short story.
