WorldCon hotel
Way back when I signed up for WorldCon, I apparently made a hotel reservation at the Boston Sheraton—but I somehow failed to write down any information at all about it, including the fact that I'd made it.
So when I saw some recent postings in various places saying that the Sheraton was sold out, I was sad. But then I saw on the WorldCon hotel reservations page that rooms sometimes opened up unexpectedly, as the result of cancellations. So I tried to make a reservation—and it went through without a hitch.
Just now, I called to check that the reservation really did go through, and incidentally to see if I had two, since I had vague memories that I'd made a reservation back at the beginning. (And to add Mary Anne's name to the reservation, something I always seem to forget to do.) And lo and behold, I did indeed have two reservations.
So I just cancelled one of them, so if any of you need a non-party-floor room for WorldCon at the Sheraton, go to the WorldCon Sheraton page and follow the appropriate link under Internet Reservations. But be quick!
One thing about hotel reservations that I didn't really understand until recently: you can generally cancel them anytime up to about 24 hours before the arrival day. So it makes sense to make reservations as soon as you know you're going to a given con, and then change or cancel later if necessary. (Of course, there are always a limited number of rooms, so if people make a bunch of spurious reservations, it can cause problems for other people. But I'm just saying there's no need to delay making reservations just 'cause you're not sure of exact travel plans, for example. Start the reservation on the earliest day you might need it; then you can change it later if necessary.)
