Another month, another record submission volume

Just finished entering the last of the July submissions into the database.

Our previous highest-volume month was this past January, when we received 492 submissions. In a normal month last year, we got somewhere in the high 300s; we've almost never had more than 400 subs in a month.

In July, we received 568. That's 15% higher than January, and about 50% higher than normal months in 2007.

It's 56% higher than July of 2007, but that's to be expected, since last July we weren't reopening after a two-month closure.

So I suppose I should compare July 2008 to the sum of May, June, and July in 2007; this past month's volume was only half that of those three months from 2007. So if we had stayed open in May and June, then we would've received a lot more submissions total.

But still, over 550 in a month is an awful lot. About 18 stories a day.
