John McCutcheon concert tonight in Santa Cruz

Keep forgetting to post this: singer/songwriter John McCutcheon is doing his annual Santa Cruz concerts this weekend.

As usual, he'll be doing a Friday evening show for grownups (tonight, January 22, at 7:30 p.m.), and a Saturday morning show for kids (January 23, 10:00 a.m.). Both concerts are, as always, at the First Congregational Church, 900 High Street.

As always (he's been doing this for over 25 years!), the concerts are benefits for the Resource Center for Nonviolence.

My attendance at the Friday night concerts has been intermittent; last year, for example, I think I skipped it in favor of seeing Scalzi and Mary R. K. read in San Francisco. But I often like these concerts quite a bit.

In the unlikely event that any of y'all (a) like folk music, (b) live in or near Santa Cruz, and (c) have Friday night and/or Saturday morning free, I recommend attending. For some links to some of McCutcheon's songs I like, see an entry from a few years back. Most of his vast recorded oeuvre is available from the iTunes Store, including his multiple highly regarded albums of kids' music, and of course including what's probably his best-known song, "Christmas in the Trenches." (Which I'm not terribly fond of; see my discussion from a few years ago.)
