When to reconsider

Still reading Jane Eyre, but getting near the end.

I think that the following, as a response to a marriage proposal, is probably somewhere in the all-time top ten hints that perhaps the proposer ought to back off:

I wish I could make you see how much my mind is at this moment like a rayless dungeon, with one shrinking fear fettered in its depths—the fear of being persuaded by you to attempt what I cannot accomplish!

    I remember that! I need to keep that line in my back pocket for use in project scheduling meetings. “Can we move that milestone up two weeks?” Sometimes a mere “no” doesn’t do.
