Awake

My goal for last night, given jet lag, was to stay up 'til 10 p.m. to start shifting toward local schedule.

Instead, I stayed up 'til about 1:30 a.m., though for the last hour of that (sending email and preparing for bed) I couldn't keep my eyes open.

Which was good, but I forgot the other half of the jet lag equation: staying asleep once asleep. Woke up around 3:30; woke up again around 5; couldn't get back to sleep; read a couple pages of book; took a Benadryl and fell asleep again.

Only to be awakened at 8 a.m. by the front desk calling me to tell me that my taxi was here.

I hadn't ordered a taxi.

Anyway, so I'm awake and more or less up now. (Somehow yesterday managed to forget that I had missed a day of shaving due to travel, so was walking around even scruffier than usual.)

Remains to be seen whether I'm now on local time or not. But it seems plausible.

Today: No specific plans. Will look at schedule and go to panels and hang out.

Still trying to figure out whether to have SH tea party. Our usual approach, of having it in a suite in the hotel attached to the convention center, won't work, because (unlike any other hotel I've ever talked with, I think) the Hilton says they can't allow that many people in a room. They offered to cordon off a part of the hotel restaurant for us, but that means using their catering, which is pricy. Haven't yet decided whether to (a) proceed with this (and risk either running out of tea or party being very expensive), (b) try again to find some other venue, or (c) give up.
