Next up for marriage equality?

Was pleased to see that Washington state governor Chris Gregoire has declared herself to be in favor of marriage equality. She's going to introduce a marriage equality bill in the legislative session that's about to begin.

Democrats have a majority in both houses of the state legislature, but some conservative Democrats are opposed to marriage equality; apparently equality is still a few votes short in the state Senate. But “State Sen. Ed Murray and Rep. Jamie Pedersen, both Seattle Democrats and leaders in the push to legalize same-sex marriage, said they're optimistic the measure will be approved.”

Anyone have recommendations of a good Washington organization that out-of-staters can donate to to help this effort? A quick Google turned up Equal Rights Washington, but I don't know anything about them.

Meanwhile, Maryland is up for another try at marriage equality. An attempt to pass an equality bill last year failed, but this year Maryland governor Martin O'Malley has stepped forward in favor of equality. (That linked-to article discusses equality in the last five paragraphs.) I'm not sure what the numbers are here, but I gather there's a decent chance it could pass.

I've been donating to Equality Maryland to support that cause.
