Stuff I’ve done this week (so far)

It’s been a busy week.

(No advice, please.)

In no particular order:

Had my first and second Waymo rides on Monday. (More on this sooner or later, if I get around to writing it up. It was pretty cool.)

Had a bunch of blood drawn for various medical tests as adjunct to my annual physical. (Not expecting anything bad, just routine tests.)

Got new glasses. (Well, new lenses in old frames.)

Met with a new urologist to consult about results of the prostate MRI I had last week. Outcome: Situation largely unchanged; gonna continue to keep an eye on PSA test results over time. Also gonna do an “IsoPSA” test, for which I need to make an appointment to get more blood drawn. (At a place I’ve never used before, which turns out to give the wrong address on their paper flyer.)

Had an appointment with ophthalmologist. Outcome: Eye pressure largely stable. Also found out I need to argue with my insurance about whether they’ll cover my previous visit, earlier this year. Sigh.

Biked downtown to pick up a lanyard and a whistle related to Rapid Response. (Required me to pump up bike tire, which led me to look for my electric pump and learn that it’s not in its usual place, so I ended up using my small manual pump.)

Met with other panelists to prepare for our Female Man panel, forthcoming online on the 30th.

After trying a bunch of different approaches, finally succeeded in migrating a website for some friends. (Took way more work than it should have, due to Pair’s limits on server use, but eventually got it working, and learned about some technical aspects of WordPress along the way.)

Saw Kam (briefly) and Laura (even more briefly).

Had calls with various family and friends.

Took my blood pressure every day. (Blood pressure was a little high at my physical; my doctor recommended tracking it, so Kam loaned me a portable monitor and I’ve started measuring it.) (At doctor’s advice, am also trying more assiduously than usual to exercise every day.)

Reported to the courthouse for jury duty; went further in that process than I ever have before. Noticed a bunch of points in the system where potential jurors have to be paying close attention or they’ll end up doing the wrong thing. Got mass-sworn-in along with roomful of other potential jurors. Filled out extensive questionnaire. Trial is now on hold until January, at which point I’ll find out whether I’m on the jury or not.

Finished reading Metamagical Themas. (Overall interesting. There are some things in it that I kinda wish I had read in high school, and other things that I’m just as glad I didn’t read in high school.)

Created an automatically generated schedule (by scraping from a page with more info) showing when various TV shows that I’m interested in are next airing. (Hoping to post more about this at some point too.)

Did a bit of Otherwise Award work.

Belatedly started putting together my 2025 donations list.

Did a tiny bit of polishing on a Russ-related essay that I wrote most of a while back but haven’t gotten around to finishing.

Did a mini grocery run to tide me over until a bigger one next week.

Did the usual day-to-day tasks: meals, meds, personal grooming, piano practice, taking out trash, etc.

Mused about adulting, and about how much of it there is to do, and about how complicated and overwhelming and difficult it can feel even for someone with the vast resources that I have, and about how nice it would be if the world’s systems were easier for everyone to navigate.
