Reinvention

Ronald D. Moore, the apparently much-maligned guy behind the upcoming remake of Battlestar Galactica on the Sci Fi Channel, posted an open letter to fans some months back, with this provocative claim:

Our goal is nothing less than the reinvention of the science-fiction television series.

He's talking about bringing realism and relevance to SF TV. Not that that's never been done before, but still nice to see someone say it. Of course, it remains to be seen whether they can deliver on these promises. Also, I never watched the original series; those who loved it as schlock space opera will no doubt be very unhappy with the new version (they're apparently already up in arms about it), so it may not have much of a chance to prove itself.

So long as they keep all the Mormon allegory in, I’m happy.
