Bay Area events

A few noteworthy upcoming and current things happening in Redwood City and San José:

  • Tonight (Wednesday, March 14), 7:30 p.m., Redwood City City Hall, 1017 Middlefield Road: Tad Williams reading. (At least, I assume the author appearances here are readings; I suppose they might be talks/signings.) Also: happy birthday, Tad!
  • Ongoing through this coming Monday, March 19, Redwood City Marina dock F (near 451 Seaport Ct.): tall ships. Dockside tours; also "Battle Sail," where they actually take you out on the water; "mock sea battles complete with cannon fire." Sadly, "Adventure Sail" (where you actually get to "help the crew haul line and set sail") ended last weekend. The Lady Washington "appeared as the Interceptor in the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie"; note the "most common questions" section of that web page, featuring the question "Did Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom stand here?" The tours and battle sails are at specific times, so check schedule before making plans.
  • Next Wednesday, March 21, 7:30 p.m., Redwood City Downtown Library, 1044 Middlefield Road: Kim Stanley Robinson reading.
  • A week and a half from now (Friday, March 23), 4:00 p.m., Carrington Hall, Sequoia High School, 1201 Brewster Ave., Redwood City: Ray Bradbury reading (via satellite).
  • Ongoing through Sunday, April 22: M. C. Escher exhibit at the San José Museum of Art, "including several of his lesser known early works and original preparatory drawings."
