Friends

One of my favorite bits of verse popped into my head again the other day, for no particular reason, as it does every so often. I've used it a lot in various contexts: .signatures for Usenet postings and email messages, a note at the end of my Wanderjahr travelogue, etc. I last posted it here in my blog almost five years ago; that's long enough that I think it's worth repeating.

From quiet homes and first beginning,

Out to the undiscovered ends

There's nothing worth the wear of winning

But laughter and the love of friends.

—Hilaire Belloc
