Awaits the sun’s return
This year's winter solstice occurs today at 3:38 p.m. California time.
And none too soon.
As is traditional 'round these here parts, here are my favorite lines from Susan Cooper's poem “The Shortest Day”:
As promise wakens in the sleeping land:
They carol, feast, give thanks,
And dearly love their friends,
And hope for peace.
That sure sounds good, doesn't it?
I think I'll leave this entry at that this year.
(Except for my also-traditional apologies to Southern Hemispherians for rejoicing at our lengthening days when yours are about to grow shorter.)
