Marriage equality updates from all over (the US)
In brief:
- It could happen soon in Maryland, where a majority of state Senators have now publicly said they'll vote yes. (But it might end up going to a popular vote afterward. But polling indicates majority support for equality.) [Added a week later: a new poll contradicts the previous one. Hard to know who's right about this.]
- It could still happen in New York, but prospects seem relatively dim. (But polling indicates majority support for equality.)
- It could be repealed in Iowa (but that won't happen for a while, if ever, and polling indicates majority support for equality).
- It could be repealed in New Hampshire (but that won't happen for a while, if ever, and polling indicates majority support for equality).
- It could happen in Rhode Island sometime soonish. (And polling indicates majority support for equality.)
- Indiana and Wyoming may enact more stringent bans than they already have. (I don't know anything about polling in those states, but I suspect they don't have majority support for equality. Still, a Republican state Senator in Wyoming is opposed to the steps the state legislature is taking. So that's something.)
- Hawaiʻi has approved civil unions.
- The California Supreme Court has decided to make a decision on the issues facing it wrt Prop 8, but maybe not until September or later.
