More window-closing, this time with no particular theme:
- Man arrested at Large Hadron Collider claims he's from the future.
- When people talk about the wisdom of crowds, they generally seem to have the idea that getting info from multiple people automatically improves the info's accuracy, which never seemed plausible to me. A new study suggests that sharing information corrupts the wisdom of crowds, which makes much more sense to me.
- This piece is kind of confusingly written, but the gist of it seems to be: to see yourself as others see you, look at the big picture rather than details; conversely, to see others as they see themselves, look at the fine details.
- What time is it anywhere in the world?
- What the British say vs what the British mean.
- How to get important things done: turn them into habits/rituals.
- A couple weeks back, an NBA team's president came out as gay. Good article and interesting story even if you're not interested in sports.
- A survey suggests that “The economic differences among the [US's] various religions are strikingly large.”
- Sweet queer-ally video from Singapore about Pink Dot. I have some quibbles with it, but it's nonetheless lovely. Looks like their Pride-equivalent celebration is coming up on June 18 this year.
- An article about how to enjoy learning to program, focused on Project Euler, a website that uses math and programming problems to make it easier and more interesting to learn to program. The article makes it sound a bit like the Project Euler site is for complete novices, but it looks to me like the site is more for people who already know at least the basics of programming.
