SH Flashback: “Let Us Now Praise Awesome Dinosaurs,” by Leonard Richardson

A new entry in my weekly Strange Horizons retrospective.

This week's Strange Horizons Flashback story:

Let Us Now Praise Awesome Dinosaurs,” by Leonard Richardson
Most of these Flashback stories are Very Serious Stories. This one is a change of pace: it makes me laugh every time I read it. Dinosaurs! From Mars! Riding motocross! Driving a monster truck! Cracking jokes! (Published in 2009.) (3,900 words.)

...Actually, I'm not sure I have any spoilery comments on this one. It makes me laugh out loud every couple of paragraphs, and it's probably the most Infernokrusher story we ever published, but I don't have a lot of Deep Thoughts about it; I just enjoyed the heck out of it.

I guess I'll take this opportunity to note that my favorite line in the story is near the beginning, when Tark is trying unsuccessfully to buy a gun at the gun store, and ends up settling for buying a magazine instead, and then says: “I got ripped off. That periodical contained neither guns nor ammo.” I love jokes that make me take a second to figure out what the joke is and then make me laugh out loud.
