Unread-books project update: 100 to go!
Milestone: I’m now down to 100 unread trade paperbacks and hardcovers.
I had reached 175 almost exactly a year ago, so I’ve gone through only 75 of them in the past year (instead of the 100 or so that I managed in a couple of previous years), so I’m now expecting to finish sometime in mid-2026 instead of late 2025.
Still, I’m making progress. I started the TPB/HC phase of my unread-books project in October 2019 with 570 unread ones, and have added 50 since then. So I’ve read or skimmed or skipped 520 of them in 5¼ years.
(As always, I’m skimming a lot of these, and giving up on some of them entirely after the first couple chapters.)
I suppose I may as well embed the Google Sheets graph showing my progress over time. The slope has stayed surprisingly steady over the years.
(The graph auto-updates over time, so if you’re reading this post a while after it was published, the graph may show more progress than the text of this post describes.)
(Image description: A graph showing three lines: the number of unread books (starting at 570 in late 2019, now down to 100, projected to hit 0 sometime in 2026); the number of read books (starting around 390, currently around 740); and the total/sum of those two (starting around 960, currently around 840; it goes down over time because I discard some books instead of keeping them).)
