Forthcoming movies

Been meaning to post about these for weeks.

  • Aeon Flux! Starring Charlize Theron, a welcome addition to the hot female action-adventure star list. A live-action movie can't possibly capture the sheer surrealism or bizarrely appealing grotesque angularity of the original animated series, but it looks like they did a decent job of making Theron move in slightly inhuman ways at times. I imagine it'll be mostly just a standard action movie—but hey, fun action-adventure starring Charlize Theron; what's not to like? Opens December 2.
  • Pride and Prejudice. Huh. On the one hand, Keira Knightley! On the other hand, the preview calls it "The story of a modern woman. . . ." And Matthew Macfadyen as Darcy is not especially impressive-looking. But Donald Sutherland is well-cast as Mr. Bennet. Still, I don't see it supplanting the BBC miniseries (the Colin Firth one) as my favorite movie version. Opens November 18.
  • V for Vendetta. Despite what Alan Moore said about the script ("It was imbecilic"), I think the movie looks reasonably good. And I think Natalie Portman is very well-cast as Evie, even though I'm not normally a big fan of hers. Opens March 17, 2006.
  • Chronicles of Narnia. I know I've mentioned this before, but I may as well mention it again. The preview is pretty magical, despite the obvious WETA/LotR influence to the look; I so want this to be good. Opens December 9.
  • Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were Rabbit. I've seen this trailer too many times now to really appreciate it, but I'm definitely looking forward to the first feature-length W&G movie. Opens October 7.
  • Get Rich or Die Tryin'. I actually don't have much interest in seeing this movie; I'm mentioning it because I really like the image on the poster.

Stay tuned for more Last Unicorn movie info (and Beagle info); that deserves an entry of its own.
