Productive day

Today I spent a few hours pre-cleaning before the cleaners got here--the level of clutter was such that they would not have been able to reach the tabletops, the countertops, the couch seats, or even some of the floors in order to clean them.

Sadly, the only way I managed to make even half of my bedroom floor cleanable was to heap stuff in a two-foot-tall pile on my bed, which I'll have to remove (and put back on the floor) before I can go to bed. As I was stacking the stuff, I was enthusiastic about actually sorting it all and putting it away, but (as I knew would happen) by the time the cleaners left, my enthusiasm had waned, and after a few minutes of desultory sorting, I wandered away. Oh, well.

Meanwhile, I decided to take a break from the 1950s-through-1970s sf written by white guys that's most of what I've been reading lately, and instead today's reading consisted mostly of three graphic novels: Princeless (which was written by a white man, but one who's more in sync with my political sensibilities than the authors of most of the older work I've been reading lately), Cairo, and Bitch Planet. All featured women of color in prominent roles, all were interesting and political and well-written and thought-provoking, and I liked all of them much more than most of the older stuff I've been reading lately (with a few exceptions).

Oh, and I did six loads of laundry, and hand-washed a sinkful of recyclables and another sinkful of pots and pans, and ran a load of dishes in the dishwasher, and broke down some cardboard boxes.

Tonight, will probably watch a movie, and may finally start reading the indigenous comics anthology Moonshot, which I've been looking forward to reading for ages. And maybe do a bit of old-family-photo-project work (made a lot of progress on that over the past couple days), and maybe read a little more old prose sf. We'll see.
