Much better

Drove Mary Anne to the airport (sadness! No more Mary Anne!) around mid-day today. The 84-degree heat was somewhat oppressive in the car, but it seems to have been what I needed; it dried up the sniffles and (oddly) reduced the headache and sore throat. I still wasn't up to going in to work, so I rented a movie and came home. Read and tried to relax for the rest of the afternoon.

Still not entirely up to snuff (whatever that means), but definitely feeling much better than I did this morning. We'll see whether I'm ready to go back to work in the morning.

I remembered the other night that there were a few years when every fall, I would get a mild cold that would last for a couple months. It occurs to me that if instead of saying "this isn't a serious illness, so I'd better go to work," I had said, "I'm going to stay home and relax and sleep and drink lots of fluids until I feel better," perhaps it would've gone away sooner.

Then again, perhaps not. I'm not so good at relaxing.
