Stormy weather

I said something to Mary Anne on Thursday about the sunny weather around here, and then Friday a big rainstorm hit the Bay Area. All morning this morning it wasn't raining around my place but there were heavy winds—loud sounds from outside of gates being slammed back and forth by the wind, large objects falling over. The power fluttered for a moment, but stayed on. The rain started an hour or two ago. I am pleased to be inside and warm.

It's the first Saturday in ages when I haven't had anything in particular to do. I don't have my usual backlog of submissions to read; I don't have anyone dragging me off to adventures; I considered going to the Harry Potter matinee but got caught up in a long phone chat with Mary Anne, and anyway it would require getting dressed instead of lounging around in my bathrobe.

I do have all sorts of things to do, of course. There are movies to watch, and entries to write, and all sorts of projects, and database interfaces to clean up, and email to write, and published fiction to read (I'm way behind on various online magazines, and I still have dozens of unread books (and that's just the ones purchased in the past few months) sitting on my floor and table), music to listen to, and stories to edit, and if all else fails an apartment to clean. I really need to do that last. But I don't have any particular desire to do any of those things at the moment.

This evening, I may go watch the director's cut of Fellowship on a big TV. Or I may not. I liked a lot of things about the movie, but do I really want to see it again, even for the new material, less than a year after the first time? I rarely watch a given movie twice, and almost never twice in a year. We'll see.
