Current and forthcoming movies

There are a bunch of movies (both forthcoming and currently out) that I want to see this year, though I'm a little dubious/hesitant in various ways about almost all of them:

The Pirates! Band of Misfits: in theatres now (or maybe gone by now, not sure).
I've heard mixed reviews of this, but the Aardman name is more or less enough to get me to see it, and it does have the voices of Hugh Grant, David Tennant, Imelda Staunton, Martin Freeman, and Selma Hayak (in what I gather is a very small role).
Best Exotic Marigold Hotel: in theatres now.
The trailer makes me dubious about this; it could very easily be super-exoticizing. But it does feature Judi Dench, Bill Nighy, and Dev Patel, and it's co-written by Ol Parker, who wrote and directed Imagine Me & You, which I quite liked. So it might be worth seeing.
Men in Black 3: in theatres now.
I think I didn't like 2 as much as 1, but it's always a pleasure to see Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones.
Snow White and the Huntsman: in theatres now.
Could be terrible, but the trailers looked stylish and intriguing.
Prometheus: 8 June.
No idea whether I'm actually up for seeing this; it might be too horrory. But I love the advertising campaign so much that I may watch it anyway. And it stars Michael Fassbender (Magneto in X-Men: First Class; also Rochester in the recent Jane Eyre, which I haven't seen yet), Guy Pearce (LA Confidential, Memento, The King's Speech), and Idris Elba (Heimdall from Thor), among others. (I haven't seen Noomi Rapace's movies, but I gather she's good.)
Brave: 22 June.
Really really looking forward to this. Hope it lives up to the trailers, which I've seen about a zillion times now.
The Amazing Spider-Man: 3 July.
A bit dubious about this, as I haven't really liked any of the previous Spider-Man movies all that much. However, one of the things I didn't like about them was Tobey Maguire as Peter, and he's been replaced for this reboot. And Emma Stone (who was awesome in Easy A) is playing Gwen Stacy.
The Dark Knight Rises: 20 July.
Apparently it's superhero summer. Though really, it may be superhero summer every year for the next few years, the way things are going. (Unrelated aside: speaking of superheroes, I see that the CW is launching a new Green Arrow TV series, to be called Arrow.)
The Bourne Legacy: 3 August.
Not certain about this one; I think I didn't love the last two Bourne movies. But I did like the first one quite a bit.
Skyfall: 9 Nov.
Next Bond movie, with Daniel Craig.
Les Miserables: 14 Dec.
I'm not totally sure that Hugh Jackman is going to work out at Jean Valjean, but I'm willing to be convinced. And I suspect Russell Crowe will be good as Javert.
The Hobbit, part 1: 14 Dec.
Thanks to Sarah L for reminding me to add this!

Ruth, Gavin and I saw The Pirates! Band of Misfits and liked it a lot. Not only was it funny and clever, but there was clearly a rich enough space of characters to support a whole series of sequels. Unfortunately its box office performance was squashed by Avengers so I have my doubts any more will be made. If you can see it in theaters I urge you to, to increase the chances they’re willing to make more.

The biggest concerns I heard about it were about its treatment of (and general lack of) female characters. But I haven’t seen it yet, so I don’t have an opinion on that myself yet.

Just happened across this entry from a couple years ago. Followup: I ended up watching all of these movies except for Bourne Legacy. I liked most of them, but didn’t love any of them. My favorites were Brave (which I liked more on rewatching a couple years later) and Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.
