App-controlled toy (NSFW)

A few months ago, I bought someone a Nova vibrator, made by We-Vibe.

I’m not going to say a whole lot about it here, but I thought it was worth mentioning two things:

  • Although ymmv, it works very well for the person I gave it to.
  • I’ve been very much enjoying controlling it remotely via We-Vibe’s free app.

The app is called We-Connect. Like most apps that require maintaining a network connection, it’s kind of flakey; sometimes it disconnects every few minutes. But when it stays connected, it works very well, letting one person control the vibration patterns for the other person from far away.

I bought the Nova from Good Vibrations, during one of their frequent 20%-off sales, but you can also order it directly from We-Vibe.

I believe that company recently settled a class action lawsuit about that product.

I’m not sure how you intended that comment, but I think it would be easy to read it as saying “this product is dangerous, so don’t use it.” So I want to add an explanation and a link.

The lawsuit was over the misuse of private data collected by the app. It was settled last August, and the company agreed to significantly improve its privacy.

Some people may, quite reasonably, continue to mistrust a company that has handled privacy badly in the past. But I personally feel that the issue has been resolved and is unlikely to be a problem again.

Is this also the vibrator that anyone in local vicinity can connect to via bluetooth smartphone? If so, did they remedy that as well?
